Earlier this week, Kurdish forces claimed near complete control of the Syrian border city of Hasakah, where the Syrian Arab Army (SAA), Kurdish militia YPG have pushed against a Daesh offensive for nearly a month.
But confirmation of the deeper wounds of the gritty battle against Daesh militants are just emerging inside the northeastern border town, which had been dully controlled by the YPG and the Syrian army until Daesh attacked in June.
A video report from Voice of America shows Kurds in Hasakah with what they say are the remains of surface-to-surface chemical weapons Daesh used during an attack last June. Unlike regular weapons, these cause dizziness, smell worse, and emit a yellow powder, according to the physician in the video.
Since then, UK research groups Conflict Armament Research (CAR) and Sahan Research found have both confirmed the Kurds' suspicions — the Daesh toolbox now includes chemical agents.
