Lebanese-British journalist Hala Jaber is in hot water this week after NOW media’s #AssadLeaks unveiled email correspondences she reportedly had with members of Assad's inner circle in 2011 and 2012, namely with a guy named George Chawi.
Chawi's name popped up in November 2011 on an European Union sanctions list of individuals associated with Bashar al-Assad's government. He’s believed to be part of the Syrian Electronic Army, a group of pro-regime hackers who have launched numerous cyber attacks on Western media outlets.
The most noteworthy of NOW's reports concerning Jaber is an email she sent Chawi February 2012 with a link to a Foreign Policy article about cyber vigilante group Anonymous targeting email accounts of Assad's inner circle, and the message “Intibho," Arabic for "you guys be careful."
In comparison to the correspondences reportedly sent by veteran German reporter Jurgen Todenhofer, accusations against Jabar are pretty light.
But that's not really how Twitter sees it. The award-winning Sunday Times journalist has come under fierce fire on social media.

Other users came to Jaber's defense, though. This was first posted two years ago, after Jaber's interview with Assad landed her in a firestorm on Twitter, and was reopened Tuesday with #AssadLeaks in mind.
