Protesters against the Gaddafi regime have consolidated their grip on areas in the east of Libya, while there are battles on the outskirts of Tripoli. If the Libyan capital falls into the hands of the rebels this will bring the end of the 42-years old regime. According to news reports from Libya, the People's Committees who oppose Gaddafi took control of the city of Zuwarah, west of Tripoli, and took control of the oil region east of Tripoli.
Libyan sources told Al Jazeera TV that rebels joined hands with a battalion to protect oil installations in the Marsa Brega oil area in the Gulf of Sirte, some 600 km east of the Libyan capital.
Meanwhile, senior figures in the City of Alzentan said they lost confidence in Gaddafi, after his speech Tuesday, stressing the unity of the Libyan tribes. They called the Libyan people to support the revolution.
Alzentan tribe warned that if Gaddafi fails to quit within the next 24 hours, the supplies of oil and gas to Europe and the world will be stopped. It added that the rebels will march from the city of Alzentan to Tripoli to support anti regime groups located in Tripoli.
