The Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) and allies have pushed Daesh out of the villages surrounding Kobani, reports the Associated Press.
"Most of the villages close to Kobani have been liberated," said senior Kurdish official Anwar Muslim. "The rest will be liberated soon," he said.
In January 2015, Kurdish fighters expelled Daesh militants from the Syrian city of Kobani, which lies on the border with Turkey, after a long and bloody battle.
As a result of the violence, more than 200,000 Kobani residents have also fled across the border into Turkey.
