The Egyptian army has lost contact with one of its patrols near the border with Sudan and began search operations in coordination with neighboring countries, reported Wednesday the official MENA news agency. "Contact was lost with one of the border guard patrols near the southern border (...) and search (operations) are underway in coordination with neighboring nations, "said MENA, quoting a senior military official.
The border between Egypt and Sudan is relatively quiet with few incidents reported in recent year. This border is much calmer compared to the Gaza Strip, which is an important transit point, via the Sinai Peninsula, for arms trafficking activities mainly into the Palestinian enclave.
