Journalists and media experts in Egypt have voiced sharp criticism regarding the the state media coverage about President Mubarak's son, Gamal. According to the critics, this coverage is far away from professional standards, describing some of them as paving the way for the "Egypt's new Sultan."
The state-run Gomhuria newspaper on Tuesday has allocated half of its front page to cover Gamal Mubarak's meeting with university students. The newspaper also devoted two full pages inside Tuesday's edition to cover the event.
Abdallah Alsnanwi the editor of Arab newspaper, the mouthpiece of the Nasserite Party, said the "exaggerated"press coverage of the activities of the Secretary of the Policy Committee in the ruling party, is a reflection of anxiety and concerns felt by some political circles in the government, especially after the popular discontent which has been directed recently towards Gamal Mubarak. Alsnanwi noted that in the past 50 years this type of media coverage was part just of Egyptian heads of state.
It is expected thet the ruling party will nominate Gamal Mubarak to run in next year's presidential elections if his 82 year old father decides to step down for health reasons.
