The Iranian armed forces on Tuesday launched exercises to test the country's air-defense systems, a senior commander was quoted by Fars news agency as saying. "Air-defence systems which use short, medium and long-range missiles in addition to the newer version of aerial defence systems will be tested" during the five-day exercises across Iran, Hamid Arjangi said, according to AFP.
Meanwhile, Iran's Press TV said the drills were also being held near "nuclear and vital landmarks, and include tests of long-range anti-air missiles."
Earlier this week, another senior military commander said that Iran has already carried out defense drills at its sensitive nuclear facilities, but the current one is the biggest. "This year, we carried out tactical drills which resembled real combat in Fordo, Tehran, Natanz, Bushehr and Isfahan," the Mehr news agency quoted Ahmad Mighani as saying.
