At least eight dead in Syria protests

Activists said Syrian security forces have killed at least eight people and detained scores as part of military operations in the past 24 hours.

According to the AP, Syria-based activist Mustafa Osso conveyed at least seven died in raids in the Jabal al-Zawiya region in the northern Idlib province late Wednesday. According to him, dozens of others were detained.

The Local Coordination Committees said a 45-year-old man was shot dead Thursday in Deir el-Zour province, near the border with Iraq, when security forces fired at protesters.
