The Tunisian army deployed in the streets of Tunis in order to prevent violence as political leaders were discussing the formation of a unity government. According to the AP, troops took up posts around the capital with tanks guarding strategic sites such as ministries and major crossroads. According to authorities, the intensified security is aimed at encountering any possible protest or looting attempt.

Meanwhile, Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani warned Tunisians to be aware of opportunitist states following recent developments in the country. "The movement of Tunisian Muslim nation to vindicate their rights shows their awakening. They should be aware that some countries which had supported the previous structure of Tunisia may take use of situation," Larijani was quoted as saying on Sunday.

Larijani also criticized the West and the US manner on Tunisia and said, "the behavior of the US and some Western countries on Tunisia is pretty ridiculous. The countries which used to be the main element of dictatorship and pressure against Tunisians are now playing the role of a sympathetic country to Tunisians."
