15 armed al-Qaeda-linked members have handed themselves over to Abyan governor Ahmad al-Maysari in southern Yemen. Official sources quoted by the state-run 26sep.net website said that the 15 al-Qaeda members were hiding out in a number of mountains at Mudyah and Laudar districts in Abyan province.

The sources conveyed that among those who handed themselves over were six "dangerous" elements, whose names top Yemen's most wanted list.

The sources disclosed that al-Maysari contacted a number of chieftains and tribal parties to negotiate with six other wanted elements, some of whom were persuaded to surrender.
