Mayor of the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM), Omar Maani, requested citizens to comply with the sidewalks planting instructions GAM has recently Issued, outlining width of pavements constructional materials used, types and locations of trees; he also stressed that GAM Construction Control cadre and regions directors do ensure such commitment.

He pointed out that the said instructions prohibit the planting of any types of trees on the sidewalks with less than 2 meters width, to help beautify the Capital and make it pedestrian friendly, and remove any obstacles that may hinder this purpose

The Amman top administrator said that the instructions presented proposals as to the preferable trees on the sidewalks, taking into consideration the geographical areas, which vary between high and low.

GAM has previously outlined the planting process on the sidewalks, dictating that trees be fast growing, with falling leaves, deep roots and high branches. The Municipality has also moved trees from sidewalks less than 2 meters, and re-floored them to provide a safe space for pedestrians.

The Mayor's request came through Hawa Amman program "With the Mayor", during which he listened to the resident's observations and remarks.

Within the same context, the Mayor of Amman said that GAM has constructed bumps on Radi 'Ennab street in Wadi A Seer, and shall execute, this winter, rain water drainage line in Maqsam Bin Al Attar street in Bayader Wadi Al Seer, and a roundabout on the intersection of Abdul Kareem Al Jabali street and Haidar Alieve.

The median island in Bader Al Jadeedah is to be removed to its proper position, as the expansion of streets in it led to varying tracks: narrow and wide, in addition to setting up a program for the execution of an asphalt mix for Jameel Al Safadi street in Dahiyat Al Rasheed.

Receiving the citizens' remarks and observations, the Mayor promised, in Rozin Al Naber program, to study the trimming of the sidewalks trees in the street of Abdul Rahman Al 'Awamleh in Um Al Summaq, which obscure drivers' sight and confuse pedestrians. He also promised to reopen the rain water manhole in the Ring Road, and to install lighting units in Grayet Salem , opposite to Iskan Kareem (Housing Complex) and near Um Al Heiran School.
