As a part of series of workshops aimed to shed a light on the main projects and initiatives in different sectors and divisions in the Department of Municipal Affairs (DMA), the Strategic Planning & Performance Management Office organized a workshop discussed the Abu Dhabi new building codes which are based on the best International Building Codes and defined as the Building Code, Fire Code, Energy Conservation Code, Mechanical Code, Plumbing Code, Fuel Gas Code, Private Sewage Disposal Code, Property Maintenance Code.

The workshop was attended by Mr. Mohamed Al Hadrami, an Advisor and Acting Director – Municipal Regulations and a number of employees in different sectors at the DMA. Mr. Al Hadrami said that the new building codes aim to balance the interests of stakeholders throughout the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in pursuit of advancing Safety, Savings, and Innovation, and they will improve the construction standards of buildings across the Emirate, creating more cost-effective structure with greater durability and high health and safety standards and will help in achieving sustainable economic growth in line with the Government 2030 vision.

The workshop discussed also a judicial gap in services showing that the DMA has applied new legislative procedures to fulfill the requirement of the municipal code in different fields which is based on a study done in 2009 and showed a gap in legislation in different areas and judicial mix up with other governmental entities.
