Nawras was delighted to sponsor the Oman Media Awards, for the third year running, as part of the company’s initiatives to support and encourage local journalists and publications. HE Sultan Hamdoon Al Harthy, President of Muscat Municipality graced the prestigious occasion, which took place recently at the Intercontinental Hotel in Muscat. 

Nawras Chief Strategy Officer, Abdulla Issa Al-Rawahy presented the award for Best English newspaper to Times of Oman while others lauded for their outstanding performances during 2010 included Mohammed Ali Al Balushi of Shabiba, Mrudu Naik of Times of Oman and Hamood Ali Al Toki from Al Waha while Oman Daily Arabic received Best Arabic newspaper. 

For the first time, the category of best female reporter was introduced with the honour of being the first recipient of this award, going to Maryam Khalfan, reporter for Oman Observer. 

Speaking after the event, Al Rawahy, said, “Nawras is proud to sponsor the Oman Media Awards because this event not only recognises those who have worked so hard to keep us all informed during 2010 but it also serves to inspire young Omanis stepping onto this career ladder, to follow in these talented footsteps.”

Organised by Creative Press & Publishing, Oman Media Awards is growing in stature with each passing year, reflecting the growth and development of the media field in the Sultanate. 

Nawras plays an active role in society in many different ways and is particularly keen to lend support to projects that can benefit the Sultanate’s young people as well as contribute further to the development of Oman.
