NBAD wins IT Project of the Year award

Network World Middle East Awards has named the National Bank of Abu Dhabi’s (NBAD), the Number One Bank in the UAE, web server optimisation mission the Application Networking Project of the year. 

NBAD’s F5 System Implementation project, which advanced NBAD web servers’ security and improved systems output, was selected the winner, beating nominations from across different industries in the Middle East. In selecting NBAD for this annual award, the judges determined the project the best in the region because its execution has made a significant impact on the business. 

“We utilised the best technology and highest quality for implementation to assure NBAD websites can accommodate increasing rise in use of the bank’s online services. More importantly, this project aimed to assure NBAD employs the highest standards in security,” said Srood Sherif, the Group Chief Information Officer of NBAD. “The project achieved NBAD’s mission to keep ahead of security threats before they arise, while at same time providing optimal quality of service to our clients.” 

The F5 System Implementation Project, deployed by NBAD’s Information Technology Department (ITD), increased NBAD’s website’s abilities to handle rising traffic load, centralised the process and implemented utilities to increase security on all web servers including e-trade applications. 

NBAD was one of the first UAE banks to launch a website. NbadOnline, NBAD’s online banking services, has steadily risen and surpassed 100,000 last year.  won the Strategic Banking Web Award from the Pan- Arab Web Academy in 2009. It was also voted the Best Financial Information website in the GCC in an annual survey by Hallvarsson & Halvarsson’s. 

The Bank’s technology team has won many awards. In 2008, the Arab Technology Awards named Mr. Sherif the Chief Information Officer (CIO) of the Year and NBAD the Banking & Finance Implementation of the Year. 

“This award recognises the assiduous and conscientious work deployed by the NBAD staff and affirms the quality of work we do,” Mr. Sherif said. “NBAD is guided by the principle that security is a continuous journey and will remain steadfast to assure NBAD consistently employs the best in class technology and methods for systems security.”
