A new employee representative elected at Dubai Customs

Dubai Customs has recently held elections for appointing a new Employee Representative at the Department in implementation of the Social Accountability standard SA 8000 as well as the Department’s strategic plan 2007-2011 and the HR Law of Dubai Government No 27 for the year 2006.
Ms. Maitha Al Marri was designated the new Employee Representative at the Department and Mr. Hussain Al Furdan as her Deputy.
H.E. Ahmed Butti Ahmed, Dubai Customs Director General met with the new Employee Representative and her Deputy and wished them success in their new mission which adds up to their existing responsibilities. He invited them to take employees’ satisfaction into their utmost consideration.
On this occasion, H.E. Ahmed Butti said:" The Department seeks to reinforce communication between the employees and the management and increase their satisfaction by implementing the best HRM international practices. The Employee Representative helps integrate improvements into the environment and conditions of work and contribute to boosting the decision-making process at the different divisions and departments.”
The election process was carried out under private balloting system with the participation of the members of the Social Accountability team and a representative of the Legal Affairs Department. Winner of the elections was appointed Employee Representative after competing with five candidates who presented their autobiography and their election program.
Ms. Maitha Al Marri stated that being appointed the Employee Representative is a huge responsibility as she will function as a link between the employees on the one hand, and the departments and divisions at Dubai Customs on the other hand in order to improve the conditions of the workplace and take part in the decision-making process with regards to employees’ grievances.
Ms. Al Marri is also the Senior Manager of Admin Services at Dubai Customs and holds a B.A. degree in Business with 14 years of professional experience.
Social Accountability System SA8000 is the first international certificate in the field of labor rights and is based on a group of international agreements in accordance with the relevant local legislations. The standard sets out the basic rights of the employees.
