‘Souq.com Stores’ extends e-Commerce reach in the UAE

A host of big-name companies including Cellucom & RadioShack set up customized virtual stores on ‘Souq.com’ to gain wider reach and instant results

Souq.com Stores, a pioneering service launched by Souq.com that allows businesses and individuals to set up their own exclusive online merchandise stores to showcase and sell products at fixed prices, is fast revolutionizing the e-commerce scene in the UAE, with a number of big-ticket companies, small business owners and individual traders turning to the e-stores to broaden their market reach and achieve instant results.

Launched early this year, Souq.com Stores has evoked an overwhelming response from vendors, resellers and individual consumers across the UAE. Businesses and individuals setting up shop on Souq.com Stores stand to benefit from the extensive customer base already present on Souq.com - the UAE’s largest online marketplace - allowing them to market their products to a pre-existing community of consumers and achieve quick turnover with minimal upfront investment.

“Since its launch close to three years ago, a growing number of small businesses and individual sellers and buyers in the UAE have been using Souq.com as a reliable interface for their transactions. More recently, we have noticed the number of small and medium size businesses as well as entrepreneurial ventures that approach Souq to showcase their items rising steadily, and this is effectively what has motivated us to launch Souq.com Stores,” said Sameh Lutfi, Sales & Marketing Manager of Souq.com.

Large companies including Cellucom and RadioShack have signed up to operate their own stores on Souq.com as well. Souq Stores already features over 70 stores that trade in Arts & Collectibles, Books, Clothing, Games & Gadgets, Jewelry, Mobiles & Accessories, Computers and Consumer Electronics among others.

“Souq Stores provides us a unique opportunity to establish a viable online sales outlet by creating customized web pages,” said Arun Nagar, CEO of Cellucom. “Having the benefit of a significant pre-existing customer base means there are no marketing costs involved, which allows us to reach out to a high-potential consumer segment at a nominal upfront fee and make quick returns on our investment.”

The Souq Stores feature offers customized branded pages through which sellers can showcase all their listings under their own Souq.com store. This innovative feature has been introduced to help businesses and regular sellers boost their sales with marketing tools that will entice buyers to come back for more. The tool allows members to customize their storefronts, incorporating their distinctive Store logos and color themes. The tool also provides sellers with an opportunity to manage their own store inventory.

Businesses are encouraged to regard Souq Stores as an extension of their existing operations. Thus, if a company already possesses an online catalogue, its presence on Souq Stores will serve as an effective eCommerce extension of its business; whereas if a company is not already present on the internet; its ‘Store’ on Souq.com will serve as its online catalogue and marketplace rolled into one. Souq.com also offers customized and tailored solutions to businesses for their stores, based on their own specific requirements.

“By providing a platform that allows other companies to drive their own businesses, Souq.com has played an important role in boosting e-commerce in the region,” said Ronaldo Mouchawar; CEO of Souq.com. “Individuals and businesses have been able to entirely bypass the difficulties that come with setting up new online businesses and have been able to profit with greater margins than they would have been able to in normal trading channels.”

“The initial response for Souq Stores has been very encouraging. We are looking to add additional features to the Stores in the coming months,” Lutfi concluded.

Souq.com members trading on Souq Stores will continue to enjoy free delivery of goods within the UAE and benefit from Souq.com’s varied secure payment and delivery options.

With over 140,000 registered users and over 270,000 unique visitors a month, Souq.com has emerged as the premier online marketplace in the region. It recorded over 8.4 million page views in the month of July 2008.
