Residents and military officials say that al-Qaeda has seized control of one of Yemen's main airports in the south of the country following brief fighting with troops, according to AP.
Al-Qaeda clashed with troops responsible for protecting Riyan airport in the city of Mukalla, a major port city in Yemen's biggest province, Hadramawt.
Earlier this month al-Qaeda entered the city and released prison inmates from Mukalla prison.
Nasser Baqazouz, an activist in the city, said the troops guarding the airport put up little resistance, AP reported
