Tehran authorities have found 17 tons of chickens which died of different maladies in a city market, the Entekhab paper said Tuesday.
"A campaign has been launched to fight against vendors selling non-hygienic chickens," the paper said, citing municipal authorities.
Cases of fraud in the sale of chickens, the most widely consumed meat in Iran, are denounced daily here. One of the most common practices is injecting the birds with water, to make them heavier.
According to Entekhab, Tehran's abattoirs will from now on be obliged, after a vote Monday by the city council, to hand over half of their taxes to City Hall to promote a campaign for hygiene – TEHRAN (AFP)
