40 Events Slated To Celebrate One-Year Countdown Of 16th Asian Games

The 16th Asian Games (www.gz2010.cn/en), part of the worldwide Olympic movement and governed by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) will be staging 40 events with the theme of “Guangzhou Invites the World” to commemorate the one year countdown to the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games on November 12.

 

The Asian Games are the second largest sports event in the world after the Summer Olympic Games.

 

 

“These events will mark the beginning of the Asian Games period for Guangdong Province”, says Luo Jingjun, Director of the Games Communication & Promotion Department of GAGOC. The series of events will include three categories - key meetings, ceremonies & cultural events and promotional activities, aiming at raising enthusiasm for the Asian Games among people across Asia and throughout the world.

 


Leading these events is the Chef de Mission Seminar for The 16th Asian Games held at The Garden Hotel from November 11 to 13, and the Mobilization Meeting of Guangdong Province for the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games will be held at the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall the morning of November 12.

 


During the 16th Asian Games One-Year Countdown Ceremony at Guangzhou Gymnasium on the evening of November 12, Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah, President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), will present invitation letters to attend the Games to delegates of the 45 member countries and regions of the OCA, while Guangzhou Mayor Zhang Guangning will present invitation letters to observe the Games to more than 600 delegates from over 80 countries attending the 2009 United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) World Council Meetings and Guangzhou International Sister Cities Conference. The ceremony will be the climax of the series of celebrations.
