4th Annual Healthcare Expansion Middle East Congress tackles healthcare industry issues

The first day of the fourth edition of the Healthcare Expansion Middle East Congress hosted by naseba, a leading business information company specialized in organizing high profile conferences and events, ended productively for the participants in Abu Dhabi yesterday.

During the key note presentations industry peers and esteemed professionals shared competent opinion and experienced case studies with colleagues and future associates. Dr. Finn Goldner, Director Corporate Performance and Operations Manager Health Insurance Regulations, Health Authority Abu Dhabi presented to the attendees the aspects of attracting private and public investment in sector development. He focused on the importance of investing in healthcare due to the increasing health spending as well as the changing disease patterns demanding modification within the healthcare system. Dr Goldner also highlighted those aspects are connected to several new trends for healthcare investments, such as the need for innovations to drive efficiencies. Standards need to be created for healthcare professionals to be able to communicate in order to leverage development opportunities in the sector.

An interesting perspective of the patient care was presented by John Downes of TRO Jung Brannen. In his presentation he dwelled on the “Patient Centered Care”, meaning providing care that is respectful of and responsive to individual patient preferences, needs, and values, and ensuring that patient values guide all clinical decisions. The concept accepted and adopted in the company, is defined by many medical institutes and organizations such as the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) and the Institute of Medicine (IOM). According to them, patient centered care puts responsibility for important aspects of self-care and monitoring in patients’ hands — along with the tools and support they need to carry out that responsibility. It also ensures that transitions between providers, departments, and health care settings are respectful, coordinated, and efficient.

Dr. Derick Pasternak MD, MBA, FACPE, Managing Director, JCI Middle East presented the planning and development of infrastructure that serves patient safety and quality of care. Some of major factors taken into account when building healthcare facilities, for example, are interior design to allow flexibility, lighting to avoid distractions and prevent from errors in the medication process, noise control to eliminate overhead paging and to isolate patients from disturbing sounds, ‘green’ principles in the construction, and decentralized nursing stations to better observation over patients.
