The head of the Syrian branch of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Abdulrazak Jbero was shot in the city Idlib. According to the organization, Jbero was shot in his car while driving from Damascus to Idlib. He was a Syrian citizen and the first president of the Red Crescent Society in the country.

In addition, reports claim that in an attack in the city of Hama a Christian priest was killed. All in all, more than 50 people were killed on Wednesday in different parts of Syria.

Meanwhile, the Syrian opposition yesterday welcomed what it said was a strategic change in Russia’s stance on the Syrian crisis.  Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Moscow is open to constructive proposals that seek to end violence in Syria.

He said any UN Security Council resolution backed by Russia “must firmly record that it cannot be used or interpreted to justify anyone’s outside military intervention in the Syria crisis”.
