60 Percent of Dubai Residents Are Muslims

Nearly 60 percent of Dubai residents are Muslims. Christians account for 14.72 percent of the total population and the remaining 26.12 percent consist of followers of other religions such as Buddhism, Hinduism, and Judaism, according to Khaleej Times


According to the latest Dubai Socio-Economic Survey, the Emirate is home to 510,163 Muslims out of the total 862,387 residents, including 250,588 females. Males outnumber the females in the Muslim community by almost three times - 355,928 males as opposed to 154,235 females.  


The population break-up on the basis of religions has been released for the first time by the Dubai Municipality's Statistics Center, which has conducted a survey. Expatriates from over 100 countries live in the Emirate, which has places of worship for non-Muslims in addition to a crematorium. Asians outnumber other nationalities in terms of the number of residents living in Dubai. 


Out of a total of 126, 949 Christians, 75,101 are males and 51,848 females. While rural Dubai has a total of 19,773 Muslims, a total of 656 Christians, including 202 females, reside in the countryside.  


Similarly, males numbered 180,770 among the followers of other religions, which also have 44,505 female believers. There are 2,886 followers of other religions residing in the countryside. The survey was conducted in two stages with the assistance of around 800 field staff and a budget of Dh2.15 million. 


Dubai recorded over 212 percent growth in population in the past two decades and 97.3 percent of the Emirate's population live in urban areas.  


Moreover, the Emirate's population witnessed a 25.1 percent growth between the years 1995 and 2000. (Albawaba.com)
