ALBAWABA- An Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon has killed seven members of Hezbollah, according to the Israeli military, in an operation carried out amid ongoing tensions despite a fragile and repeatedly tested ceasefire.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said the strike targeted militants in the Al-Mansoura area who were transporting weapons to a building identified as a combat position and observation post allegedly used to prepare attacks against Israeli forces. The military described the operation as a defensive strike aimed at neutralizing an imminent threat.

The incident comes against the backdrop of a tenuous ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah that has been repeatedly strained, with both sides accusing each other of violations.

The agreement—mediated in part by the United States and extended through 2026—calls for an end to hostilities, Hezbollah’s withdrawal north of the Litani River, and expanded deployment of Lebanese state forces in the south. Despite this framework, intermittent Israeli strikes and Hezbollah activity have continued, sustaining instability along the border.

Diplomatic efforts to stabilize the situation are ongoing. In a joint statement following a recent U.S.–Gulf Cooperation Council meeting, Washington and Gulf states reaffirmed support for Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and welcomed U.S.-facilitated negotiations between Israel and Lebanon aimed at a lasting security arrangement. The statement also emphasized strengthening Lebanese state authority and called for the disarmament of non-state armed groups.
