According to the British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Right, 75 US-trained Syrian rebels have entered Syria from Turkey, Reuters reports.
The Observatory's director, Rami Abdulrahman, said the rebels had crossed into Syria from Turkey with twelve vehicles equipped with machine guns.
Recently General Lloyd Austin, the senior US officer in the Middle East, issued a statement to the US Senate saying there are currently only "four or five" US-trained rebel fighters in Syria.
General Austin also confirmed that the goal of training 5,000 Syrian rebels is unlikely to be met in the near future.
To date Congress has paid roughly $500 million for the program, which has been seen by many, including Senator John McCain, as a failure.
