ALBAWABA - Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas announced that he will be visiting Turkey next week, AFP reported citing Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan.
According to media reports, Abbas' visit is aimed at discussing the Israeli war in Gaza and the reconciliation efforts between Palestinian factions.
Fidan revealed that the Palestinian leader is expected to visit Ankara on Tuesday after an invitation from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Abbas and Erdogan are likely to observe "the developments in Palestine, the current course of the war as well as the intra-Palestinian" dialogue.
Fidan revealed: "There is a serious desire and effort to reach a ceasefire before Ramadan."
Efforts have intensified to reach a ceasefire deal before Ramadan 2024, Israel yesterday "basically accepted" a six-week truce, according to a senior US official Saturday.
Today, delegations from Hamas, Qatar and the US have gathered in Egypt for new negotiations aimed at reaching a deal before the holy month of Ramadan.
