Under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, and President of the University of Abu Dhabi Board of Trustees & Governors, and His Excellency Ali Saeed Bin Harmal Al Dhaheri, Chairman of the Executive Board of Governors, Abu Dhabi University (ADU) has announced at a press conference that they have commenced a week of activities dedicated to the memory of the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan. The event has been organized by the students and will called “A Tribute to the Father.”

“We are proud to be commemorating the life and achievements of this great man,” said H.E Ali Saeed Bin Harmal, Chairman, ADU. “His life’s work is used as inspiration and motivation at ADU and this will be evident in the days to come when our Tribute to the Father week begins,” he added.

The event is being organized by the ADU Future Makers, in conjunction with the Red Crescent Society, with the support of the main sponsor, Al Awael Group. “To be a part of a venture committed to the memory of our late leader is an honor,” commented H.E Dr. Hamdan Al Mazroui, UAE Red Crescent Society. “We are looking forward to participating in many more such events with Abu Dhabi University that demonstrate the institute’s commitment to our society.” he added.

The activities that the students have organized include the distribution of special “Tribute to the Father” Dua’a booklets and other mementos; praying at Sheikh Zayed’s gravesite; handing out Dua’a booklets at selected high schools and malls; and holding a painting and poetry competition. The week will end with a celebratory gathering at Emirates Palace.

The main focus of the week, planned to be an everlasting memorial, will be a mosque that will be built in Khalifa City near ADU’s new campus. “To pay tribute to the life’s work of Sheikh Zayed, we wanted to build something solid that reflects his personality and his achievements. This mosque gives to the community and also preserves our memory in Sheikh Zayed,” said Afra Al Hamli, Chairperson, Future Makers. The mosque will be named “Future Makers Mosque” and will have a capacity for 650 persons and will be completed in one years’ time.
