International technology industry observers are predicting that Acer Computer will become one of the world’s top three PC vendors in 2007, for the first time in the company’s history, and its performance in developing markets like the Middle East is one of the factors supporting its success.

With notebook shipments alone set to reach over 12-14 million units in the coming year, an increase of 30 percent on shipped units in 2006, Acer’s global momentum is building and is even realising strong, sustained growth in markets where it has previously seen the least penetration, such as the US.

IDC figures placed Acer as the second-largest PC vendor across EMEA in Q4 2006, and according to IDC senior research analyst Michael Larner, Acer’s growth was driven by its competitive desktop offerings and strong laptop sales. Acer held its position as leading laptop vendor in EMEA.

Proven to be a consistent performer in the Middle East market, Acer has registered strong, ongoing growth in major markets like Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

“As the number one vendor for notebooks in the EMEA region, including top spots in the UAE and KSA, Acer Middle East is proud to be contributing to our success on the wider global stage. Reports of our ongoing growth internationally are very pleasing, and underline the strong demand for our quality products across a range of markets,” said Krishna Murthy, General Manager, Acer Computer Middle East Ltd.

With IDC figures for the Middle East set to be published in the next few days, Acer Middle East has stated that it is confident that Q4 2006, as well as its total end of year results, will demonstrate the increasing significance that Middle East growth is making on the global stage.
