Festival Waterfront Centre, the newly opened retail district at Dubai Festival City, is launching an action packed ‘Festival of Sport’ this month, featuring a host of exciting activities, demonstrations, competitions and exhibitions from 11th to 31st March.
For grand prix enthusiasts a Formula 1 exhibition in Festival Square will include a display of F1 cars, replica model cars, racing tyres and a Toyota simulator.
The outdoor activities kick off with the Red Bull street ball challenge accompanied by DJ Moe playing MC. Team basketball and football competitions, three-on-three basketball, slam-dunk challenges, three pointer challenge, DJ competitions and a graffiti challenge will keep the tempo high. Adding a little more ‘street’ flavour to the mix will be video games, street dancing, and face painting.
For a taste of the more ‘extreme’ sports, an outdoor adventure ‘playground’ will host the regions top skateboard, BMX and rollerblading talent, performing unbelievable stunts and offering tips for budding riders on improving techniques.
Astounding everyone with their high energy routines, the Fitness First GX Demo Team will demonstrate 20 minute ‘snap shots’ combining moves from a variety of different exercise classes.
Balancing the activities with some more intellectual pursuits will be chess exhibition matches by grand masters on a giant board, speed chess for participants of all ages, a ‘blitz’ tournament and trivia quizzes with many exciting prizes up for grabs.
A sports memorabilia exhibition will feature rare souvenir pieces including: Mohammed Ali’s signed robe; a Pele number 10 Brazil shirt; a Martin Johnson signed England Rugby shirt and many other notable sporting collectables.
Capturing the imagination, a sports photography exhibition will showcase a wide range of sports from all levels, celebrating culture, diversity and age through the lens of some of the world’s top photographers, as well as local Dubai based amateurs.
Hosted by Festival Waterfront Centre, the Festival of Sport is the first in what will become a series of festivals throughout the year and encourages open participation in all events, giving everyone the chance to acquire new skills, have fun and get active.
Dubai Festival City’s 2.1 million sq. ft. retail resort comprises Festival Waterfront Centre and Festival Power Centre and over the coming year it will be home to 550 shops, 20 flagship and anchor stores, 90 restaurants and cafés. Additionally, a Skywalk Entertainment level will be home to a 12-screen Grand Cinema Complex, Electronics Collection, Bowling City, a Skywalk food court, Fitness First and Magrudy’s.
