As the owner of the King Hussein International Airport (KHIA), the Aqaba Development Corporation (ADC) put the airport on the regional map of the aviation industry, as one of the major logistics facilities in the Aqaba Special Economic Zone (ASEZ), during its participation in the 7th edition of the Dubai Airport Show, the region’s leading showcase for airport equipment, technology and services from around the world.
KHIA has undergone considerable expansion and development over the past few years after adopting an open-skies policy and preparing its master plan for the next 30 years. The airport's capacity increased to handle additional air traffic and the terminal is under going significant renovations to modernize and upgrade facilities for visitors. The airport can now accommodate up to 170,000 passengers, and has the capacity to handle daily regional and international flights. Moreover, an air cargo service facility was established at the airport to achieve the goal of transforming Aqaba into a transport and logistics hub for the Middle East.
Eng. Imad Fakhoury ADC's Chairman and CEO said "The development and growth of Aqaba is moving at a fast pace and the King Hussein International Airport has played a significant role in this achievement. A delegation representing ADC and its partners participated in the region’s premiere airport show to showcase the latest developments that have taken place at the airport, in addition to bringing attention to the comprehensive facilities and services that it offers."
He went on to say "We are proud to announce that KHIA is being transformed into one of the region's most advanced and modern airports and will continue to play an ever increasing role in the development of Aqaba as a tourism, logistics and investment destination."
The KHIA pavilion at the Dubai Airport show included the Aqaba Airports Company, the first national airport management company which was recently established by ADC to manage and operate KHIA , as well as the Air Cargo Terminal, Ayla Flight Academy and JP Jet Services, who were among the first investors to have benefited from the Airport's facilities and the incentives provided by ASEZ.
