Mahesh Bhupathy, doubles winner at the 2008 Dubai Open Tennis Championships and holder of 10 Grand Slam Tournament titles, will open his professional Tennis Academy at Kempinski Hotel Ajman, his second with the Kempinski Hotels group, providing the first tennis coaching facility in the emirate of Ajman.
‘We are thrilled to be involved with this enterprise, and look forward to welcoming the first students onto the courts. Tennis is one of the world’s fastest growing sports and it is so important to tap into the virtually un-touched market of the Middle East, and build on the interest and abilities within this region,’ said Ulrich Eckhardt, General Manager Kempinski Hotel Ajman.
Spending most of his childhood growing up in Dubai and Muscat, Mahesh Bhupathy was without access to good tennis coaching facilities and with this in mind, he decided to create the Mahesh Bhupathy Tennis Academy (MBTA). Incorporating nine academies in India with an elite tennis academy in Bangalore, Mahesh aims to open branches of his academy in most emirates of United Arab Emirates.
Each MBTA provides courses and training conducted by highly qualified coaches, all of whom have qualifications from the Professional Tennis Registry and International Tennis Federation; and only Level 1 and Level 2 coaches can be selected to manage the academies.
The MBTA in the United Arab Emirates will select the top junior player from the academy every year to train two weeks in MBTA-India as part of their incentive programme.
The MBTA at Kempinski Hotel Ajman will open in May 2008. The academy will offer a comprehensive courses and training programmes to suit the many different levels of players (beginners, intermediate and advanced) juniors and adults.
Classes range from AED 50 per person for group lessons of up to four persons or AED 120 for individual one-on-one lessons. Special rates apply for Laguna members.
