On the 23 October 2013 the MV Rhosus departed under the Moldovan flag from Batumi, Georgia. After traveling across the Black Sea and navigating the Bosporus strait the cargo ship, carrying 2,750MT of ammonium nitrate, began to make its way across the Mediterranean from where it planned to pass through the Suez Canal and reach its destination at Biera, Mozambique. En route the ship started to show technical difficulties and the captain, Boris Prokoshev, decided to dock at Beirut for repairs. P
