Ahmadinejad not worried by French war threats

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Tuesday that Tehran "does not take seriously" recent threats by French officials. His comments came during his talks with reporters at the end of his address to the Majlis where he briefed the MPs on the performance of his government for implementation of the country's Fourth Development Plan (2005-2010).

"We do not take these statements seriously. Comments to the media are different from real statements," the Iranian leader stressed, according to IRNA. Ahmadinejad reacted to the recent remarks by French FM that the world should prepare for a war against Iran over its nuclear program.

Meanwhile, the Iranian state-run media continued its attack on Paris. On Tuesday, IRNA published an editorial saying: "The French government in recent months has shown signs of naivety and an unprecedented illogical lenience towards the White House which will undoubtedly lead to weakening of its status in the European Union and strengthening its rivals."

It added: "The US has made various efforts in the past to take advantage of the French position and influence in Europe. But France has always adroitly refrained from identifying itself with the US policies by resorting to the French independent values."

"In the latest case, namely Iraq's occupation by the US forces, France distanced itself from the Washington's policy and termed it as an act against International laws and regulations."
