Ahmed Butti Ahmed, Director General of Dubai Customs has affirmed that inspection and examination of containers at Dubai ports are performed in accordance with world best practices using modern equipments and implementing training programmes for the respective customs inspectors.
”Dubai Customs is committed to all agreements with any contracting party that aims to strengthen Dubai’s position as a world hub, free of dangerous and prohibited goods and articles worldwide”, said Butti while honoring two customs inspectors in appreciation of their efforts in containers inspection.
Michel Simson, USA Ambassador to UAE praised the great success of US Containers Security Initiative (CSI) signed earlier with Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC), which aims to examine containers departing Dubai ports to USA pointing out that “CSI is a dazzling success”.
In appreciation of their prompt efforts together with US Customs and Border Protection Team to examine high risk containers, Abdul Karim Mohammed and Khaifa Al Humairy, who work as inspection officers at Port Rashid and Jebel Ali Port, received two memorial shields from USA Embassy in UAE.
PCFC and the US Department of Energy earlier signed a MOU under which Dubai Customs shall receive equipments to detect illegitimate, nuclear and radioactive substances, in addition to technical training for customs staff and exchange of relevant information.
The MOU is part of the initiative of the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) of US Department of Energy, which was designed to suspend prohibited conveyers containing nuclear or any other radioactive substances. By signing the MOU, Dubai Customs joins the Netherlands, Greece, Spain, Sri Lanka and Belgium, which earlier signed this MOU.
