Al Ain Dune Championship Will Encourage the Youth and Increase Tourism, says H.E. Sheikh Abdullah Al Hamed

The Al Ain Dune Championship 2008, which is being held this coming weekend on 1st and 2nd May, is aimed at encouraging the region’s young people, whilst at the same time increasing tourism to the region, says H.E Sheikh Abdulla Bin Mohammed Bin Butti Al Hamid, president of the Abu Dhabi Motors Club Board of Directors.

Speaking just a week before the official opening, Sheikh Abdulla explained  that the club had been set up under the direction of HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed bin Nahyan, the President of the UAE, together with the Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed and under the patronage of Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Minister of Presidential Affairs specifically with a remit to encourage youthful participation in sports.

“The Al Ain Championship gives young people a chance to practise their hobby of dune driving in a secure and safe environment, whilst committing to safety standards which gives them a chance to gain experience of their sport. At the same time it presents our country as a natural home of international championships,” he said.

”The Emirates has some spectacular and beautiful scenery,” he continued. “These dunes are very high and incredible just to come and see. Visitors never fail to be amazed at their breath-taking splendour, whist the sport of dune climbing is also very popular with tourists.

“Every year we see the numbers of visitors attracted by these events increasing – not just from across the UAE, but from right across the Gulf area as well. I would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to all the governmental and private sectors who have supported us in the preparation of this event.“
