Al Bustan Rotana Dubai Joins the World for Earth Hour 2009
The Al Bustan Rotana Dubai joined the rest of the world by participating in Earth Hour 2009 from 8:30 pm – 9:30 pm last night, March 28th, 2009.
Taking part in the noble campaign like the millions of people and establishments internationally who turned off their lights, the hotel management established its sincere initiative for energy conservation by turning off its non-essential external lights as well as actively encouraged its guests to turn off the lights in their respective guestrooms for one hour.
Earth Hour 2009, a global climate change awareness campaign organized by World Wide Fund for Nature/ World Wildlife Fund (WWF), was started in Australia in 2007. WWF celebrates the event every last Saturday of March each year with the aim of raising international awareness towards the urgent need to take action on climate change and energy conservation. With more than 50 million people participating last year, the organizers aimed to have 1 billion people turning off their lights from 8:30 – 9:30 yesterday evening.
Detlef Winter, General Manager of the Al Bustan Rotana commented, “Our goal in participating in Earth Hour 2009 goes beyond being part of the statistics which turned off lights. More importantly, it was to prove that social responsibility, especially in terms of actively doing our part in conserving energy and saving the Earth, has always been a priority of the hotel’s management. Joining Earth Hour this year is just one of our initiatives to manifest our honest intentions to help conserve the Earth for future generations. It has been our pleasure to participate in this noble cause and we look forward to participating again next year”.
