Eight Islamic extremists were killed by security forces conducting sweeps through mountainous areas of northwestern Algeria, newspapers reported Monday.
The latest fighting, part of a major army operation, took place in the Ouled Mimoum and Beni Snous mountains on Sunday, the reports said.
An 18-year-old rebel was captured, the reports said.
These latest incidents bring the total number of people killed since the beginning of October to 180, including 40 Islamic extremists, according to a toll compiled from press reports.
