Algerian army raids uncover weapons, drugs, militant hideouts

Five bunkers, antipersonnel mines, a home-made bomb and explosives were destroyed Saturday in Boumerdes and Tizi Ouzou by detachments of the People's National Army, said Sunday the Ministry of National Defence in a statement.

"As part of the fight against terrorism, detachments of the People's National Army of the operational areas of Boumerdes and Tizi Ouzou (1st Military Region) destroyed, on 5 March 2016, five bunkers, three antipersonnel mines, a home-made bomb and explosives," said the statement.

In Laghouat (4th Military Region) "a man in possession of a pump gun with telescopic sight was arrested aboard a car," added the statement.

In Tlemcen (2nd Military Region), units of the National Gendarmerie "arrested two drug traffickers aboard a trunk loaded with 89.7 kg of cannabis resin," said the statement.

In Tamanrasset and In Guezzam, "a smuggler of Africa nationality was arrested and three all-terrain vehicles, 547 psychotropic tablets and 3.7 tonnes of foodstuffs were seized," added the Ministry's statement.
