Algerian Foreign Minister Abdelaziz Belkhadem called in Bern on Thursday for Israel to be put on trial for the deaths of Palestinian children.

Belkhadem, on a one-day official visit, did not say however which international body could be responsible for judging Israel.

Speaking to reporters after talks with his Swiss counterpart Joseph Deiss, he also referred to countries which voted against the setting up of an international inquiry commission into alleged Israeli abuses during last Thursday's meeting of the UN Human Rights Commission.

"Israeli soldiers are killing Palestinian children, and to vote against a commission of inquiry is not moral", he said during a joint press conference.

The resolution to set up the inquiry presented by Arab states was approved by the UN Commission, but countries of the European Union, United States and Canada voted against.

Deiss told reporters Switzerland stood ready to be part of the commission of inquiry but as yet had not been requested to do so – BERN (AFP)
