Algerian Prime Minister Resigns

Algerian Prime Minister Ahmed Benbitour has resigned and President Abdelaziz Bouteflika has charged his chief of staff with forming a new government, it was announced in Algiers Saturday. 

Benbitour handed in his resignation Saturday morning and it was immediately accepted by the president, a statement from the president's office said. Benbitour had been in post since the end of December 1999. 

His successor Ali Benflis managed Bouteflika's campaign ahead of his election in April last year - ALGIERS (AFP)
