All Roads Lead To Airport Expo As Consumers Look For Best Deals

Organiser Dubai World Trade Centre confirmed that preliminary visitor numbers for the first three days of GITEX Shopper & Consumer Electronics Expo 2006 were significantly higher than last year while leading vendors, distributors and resellers participating at the show confirmed a surge in sales as the region’s biggest IT retail extravaganza continued to draw large crowds.

This seven-day event, which will run till 24 November 2006, beckons consumers with bundled offers, bargains, discounts, competitions, lucky draws, easy instalment schemes, instant rewards and unbelievable prizes to take back home. More than 120,000 visitors are expected to take advantage of this once-a-year shopping bonanza.

““We are delighted with the overwhelming consumer attendance on the first three days of GITEX Shopper. More importantly, participating exhibitors have expressed great satisfaction at the high level of sales generated over the counter. GITEX Shopper has indeed lived up it’s reputation as the most sough after IT and consumer electronics event in the region,” said DWTC Director General, Helal Saeed Al Marri.

Products that are moving quickly off the shelves of the exhibition stands include mobile phones, PDAs and handhelds, digital cameras, laptops, PCs and home entertainment products.

Speaking on behalf of Jumbo, Marketing Manager, Avinash Shanbhogue said: “We have had a couple of very busy days, with lots of crowd and very good sales.”

He noted that the consumers were more knowledgeable this year with a high percentage of the clientele being Arabs including visitors from Abu Dhabi.

Bradley Bennett, Divisional Manager of Plug-Ins reported quadruple sales compared to last year. “With every passing year, the show is getting bigger and better and people came with the intent of making a purchase rather than just to browse,” he said.

Cellucom’s Retail Manager, Andre Du Plessis said, “This is our third consecutive participation at GITEX Shopper and we have doubled the size and scale of our participation and our sales too have doubled on the first three days of the show.”

R.Haridas, Manager Advertising & Promotions at Cosmos and Cosmos Micro reported a three-fold increase in sales compared to last year and sold out their entire stock of 32” LCD screens due to their attractive prices.

At the ultimate high-energy shopping platform with an enlarged profile this year, visitors will stand the chance to win the grand prize of a complete Home Theatre System with a 40” Plasma TV, and many other fabulous prizes such as laptops, mobiles, and digital cameras at the “Shopper Mega Draw”. Visitors are also engaging themselves at the “Shopper Gaming Zone”, where live gaming challenges are taking place and exciting prizes await winners.

GITEX Shopper & Consumer Electronics Expo 2006 is open from 11.00am to 9.00pm from Saturday to Thursday at Airport Expo Dubai. On Friday the show will be open from 3.00pm to 9.00pm.

GITEX Shopper & Consumer Electronics Expo will take place on the 18-24 November 2006 at the Airport Expo Dubai. The show will be open from 11.00am to 9.00pm from Saturday to Thursday, and from 3.00pm to 9.00pm on Friday.

Admission Policy
AED 15 per visitor, per entry. Free for children under five years. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Shuttle buses to and from the Airport Expo Dubai and the DICEC will be available between the 18 – 22 November 2006.
