The United States embassy in Yemen, closed since Wednesday for security reasons after six suspected al-Qaeda activists died in a missile attack, re-opened during the weekend, a mission employee told AFP on Sunday.

"The embassy re-opened on Saturday and the public are being allowed in normally," the employee said.

The State Department closed the embassy to the public on Wednesday amidst fears it could become a target for a terrorist attack in retaliation for the US killing of a senior operative of Osama bin Laden's al-Qaeda network.

At the time, the department said the facility was closing for an indefinite period of time to review security and would re-open when appropriate. (Albawaba.com)
