School stationery and supplies distributed to over 100 orphaned children
Fun, laughter and joy filled the children of SOS Children’s Village yesterday as they prepared to start their new academic year with gifts of school bags, colours and stationery provided by American Express Middle East. The staff of American Express Jordan visited the Village yesterday and distributed the new packs to over 100 children. The Chief Executive Officer and Human Resources Director of American Express Middle East flew in from headquarters in Bahrain to join the visit.
Ms. Lina Madi, Country Manager of American Express Jordan said: “Our team was happy to join the lovely children of SOS Village as they prepared themselves for the new school term. At American Express we believe that it takes more than good products to make a great company. Being involved with the local community, supporting their aspirations and making a positive contribution will go a long way in meeting the needs of deserving organisations that are striving hard to address social needs. Such initiatives also build good corporate citizenship among our employees.”
SOS Children's Village Association of Jordan is a private and independent social development organization. It was established in 1984 and cares for 350 Jordanian orphaned and abandoned children, in three Villages: Amman, Aqaba, Irbid and five youth houses in Amman and Irbid. The SOS concept pioneered a family approach to the long-term care of needy children. This concept is based on four principles: The Mother, Brothers and Sisters, the House and the Village. SOS Amman and Irbid Villages consist of 12 family houses, and SOS Aqaba Village consists of 8 family houses. Each house cares for 9 brothers and sisters. The 9 children in each family house are cared for by their SOS mother who provides them with love, security and warmth. The children live together like a natural family.
