ALBAWABA - Danish Prime Minister announced Wednesday that his country is looking to buy "long-range precision weapons" for the first time in its history, AFP reported.
Mette Frederiksen said that Denmark's consideration to acquire "long-range precision weapons" comes amid the need to enhance the military's capabilities in the face of any possible tension with Russia.
"For the first time, Denmark is to build up military capacity in the form of long-range precision weapons. This is a paradigm shift in Danish defence policy," the PM said at a press conference.
In addition, the Defense Ministry released a statement on its official website on Sept. 17, reading, "We are in the process of a historic reconstruction of Danish defense, and it is natural that we are continuously looking at how we can best defend Denmark and the Kingdom in the future and contribute to the security of our allies."
Minister of Defense Troels Lund Poulsen said, "Together with the ground-based air defense, Denmark is strengthening its ability to partly counter threats from the air, but also to more actively combat threats far from Denmark. With this decision, the Defense Forces will now find out how we can best purchase and integrate long-range precision weapons at home."
Moreover, Chief of Defence Michael Wiggers Hyldgaard also revealed that it its essintial for Denmark to have long-range precision weapons to be able to deliver credible deterrence and ensure a robust defense of Denmark. He also believes that the Armed Forces should be able to counter threats before they reach the country's territory.
