The second edition of Amman Stand-up Comedy Festival tickets were all sold out in record time. The event kicks start on Friday, 4 December 2009, at King Hussein Cultural Center and runs until 10 December,
The Festival comprises comic skits performed by a group of renowned American and international comedians, accompanied by a number of their Jordanian and Arab counterparts.
The event is sponsored by the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM), in close cooperation with the critically acclaimed New York Arab-American Comedy Festival, and Orbit Showtime.
Mayor of Amman, Omar Al Maani, said: "The Festival gives the Jordanian Capital an important dimension in making it a regional and international platform for stand-up comedy performances, in addition to enriching the City's cultural movement. It also helps in reinforcing Amman's position as an important tourist and cultural destination for Arab and regional visitors".
The tickets points of sale witnessed a hilarious acceptance by this kind of Comedy fans and lovers from local community and some from neighboring and foreign countries.
An open day for auditions will take place on December 4 in Al Hussein Cultural Center to explore some Jordanian talents in the stand-up comedy. Two workshops are to be held on Saturday (5/12/09), the first starts at 12:00 pm, and will tackle ways of teaching basics of stand-up comedy to people with no experience in this domain, and the second workshop, at 1:30 pm, will be dedicated to qualifying interested people with information to enable them enter the television content industry.
The Amman Stand-up Comedy Festival was first held last year, from 2 to 6 December 2008, the first of its kind in the Middle East and, indeed, the Arab world.
