Computer users have been warned of a fast-spreading mass mailer virus known as "Anna Kournikova" or VBS-Kalamer virus which appears as an invitation to see Kournikova’s photo.

According to the Gulf News the virus which cause serious problems to the computer users, spreads in an e-mail with:

Subject line: :"Here you have."

Message text: "Hi: Check this!"

Attachment: "AnnaKournikova.jpg.vbs"

Upon execution, this Internet worm copies itself to the Windows directory and then sends the file as an attachment to every address listed in the infected users 'Microsoft Outlook address book'. The overriding results could potentially create an effect similar to Denial of Service attack (DOS) due to the high volume of e-mails created.

Harish Kunnath, managing director of Paramount Computer Systems was quoted by the daily as saying that the “viruses are the fastest means of causing harm to a large spectrum of people. The damage they cause is huge. Efficient anti-virus companies no longer only detect and clean the virus, but also make sure they are the first to release protection for the virus too.”

According to the paper, several companies in the region have issued an alert against the potential impact of the virus, including Paramount Computer and Symantec. The former said protection is available immediately from Trend Micro's free online virus scanner, HouseCall (http:/housecall.antivirus.com). Paramount Computer has contacted most of its customers by phone and e-mail to issue a warning and has recommended the ways on using the anti-virus for their protection – Albawaba.com
