An anthrax scare in Bangladesh was spreading, police said Wednesday, as two more foreign missions received suspicious mail.
The US Embassy and the Australian High Commission in the capital Dhaka reported suspect mail was delivered Tuesday, a day after the British High Commission was evacuated when a envelope containing a white substance was opened.
Similar mail was received at the British Council, but no cases of anthrax have been confirmed.
They are all believed to be hoaxes or over-reactions, one police officer said on condition of anonymity.
Bangladesh postal authorities have told staff to be on alert against anthrax-laced letters.
In the US there have been 13 confirmed cases of anthrax infection, including three deaths, after a spate of germ warfare mailings -- Dhaka, (AFP)
