Asia-Pacific leaders from oil-producing and -importing nations on Thursday called for stability on the world oil markets, seeking increased supplies but not specifying a desired price.
The declaration issued at the end of the APEC leaders' summit said stability was in the interests of both consumers and producers.
The 21 leaders of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum said they were encouraged by the improvement in economic and social conditions in economies affected by the 1997 Asian economic crisis.
"We note though, the risks to the world economy posed by volatility in the oil market. We call for appropriate measures to promote stability."
In their directive the APEC leaders called for "appropriate increases in supplies and other necessary measures to promote long-term price stability in the mutual interests of consumers and producers." -- BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (AFP)
