Under the patronage of H.E Prime Minister Nader Dahabi, and stemming from the historical relationship that brings Aqaba Port together with Iraq, Aqaba Container Terminal (ACT) has participated for the second time in a row in the Project Rebuild Iraq 2008 – The 5th International Rebuild Iraq Exhibition, which was held at Amman Exhibitions Park from May 5th till 8th, with the participation of 500 Arabic and foreign companies from 31 countries.
Besides the participation of ACT, Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) and Aqaba Development Corporation (ADC) as well as a number of companies located in Aqaba have partaken in this conference, under the slogan “Aqaba your Gateway to Iraq”, highlighting Aqaba as a future gateway and a city that is witnessing significant developments in the economic level.
”Our participation in this exhibition comes as a result of the importance of ACT’s position in the region as it serves Iraq directly by handling the cargo crossing from and to Iraq, in addition to the close relationship that has brought Aqaba Port and Iraq together during its ordeal, ” said ACT CEO Jerry Rickcord.
During the conference which was held simultaneously with the exhibition, Mr. Rickcord expressed the company’s delight and honor in this participation as the exhibition plays a role in giving local and global companies the opportunity to sign deals and partnerships with Iraq, in addition to giving them the chance to display their services, thus contributing to the rebuild and revive of Iraq.
Mr. Amin Kawar, ACT CCO, delivered a presentation where he highlighted the services ACT provides and the developments it witnessed ever since its establishment up to this day. He also pointed out the prominent role the company plays in being the sole container terminal in the Kingdom as well as being a vital gateway for handling cargo from and to other countries in the region. Furthermore, Mr. Kawar highlighted the future plans of ACT.
The 5th Rebuild Iraq Exhibition, which is organized by "IFP Jordan", is considered one of the most important international exhibitions known in the world due to its major achieved results in the previous years. The Exhibition also helps in demonstrating the developments in the industrial, commercial and services’ sectors in Jordan, where they are keen on participating regularly in this exhibition in order to look for opportunities of joint ventures with international companies present at the event as well as benefiting from the geographical location of Jordan which forms a trade gateway to Iraq and other countries, allowing them to partnership with companies interested in penetrating the Iraqi market.
Aqaba Container Terminal:
Aqaba Container Terminal Pvt Co. (ACT) is the only Jordanian container terminal. It is a major gateway for the Jordanian market, as well as for transit cargo moving to and from other countries in the region. In 2006 a 25 years JV contract was signed between Aqaba Development Corporation (ADC) and APM Terminals International, agreeing that the new ACT Pvt Company will operate, manage and market ACT.
ACT is committed to providing a world class facility for its customers, and continuously looks for further enhancements and developments. This has already resulted in a number of upgrades to the facility and its equipment.
