Arab foreign ministers will hold their 166th ordinary meeting in Cairo next Sunday, in order to tackle a long agenda topped by the Arab stance toward Israel, the daily Al Akhbar said.

Qatari Foreign Minister Hamad Ben Jasem will preside over the two-day meeting’s opening, and the foreign minister of Comoros, Mohammed Saif Al Amin, will chair the proceedings.

Arab League Secretary General Amr Mousa will provide the meeting with a detailed report on the activities of the league council between March and September 2001, and the actions taken by the Arab Summit committee, which he chairs.

The committee is entrusted with implementing the league’s initiatives and resolutions emerging from Arab summits.

The ministers will discuss 28 items on an agenda prepared by Mousa last July, two months before the meeting, to give the ministers sufficient time to discuss all items or add new ones.

The ministers will focus on the Arab stance towards Israel, rescuing the peace process, the Arab boycott of Israel, and the outcome of the Damascus boycott office meetings.

This is in addition to discussing the Palestinian boycott of Israeli settlement products and hoped-for reconciliation between Iraq and Kuwait on the issue of the emirate’s prisoners of war.

Kuwait will send a top-ranking delegation to the event, headed by Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Sabah Al Ahmed.

Palestinian President Yaser Arafat will attend the meeting to update the participants on developments in the Occupied Territories – Albawaba.com
