An Israeli Arab was killed in the northern Arab town of Nazareth Sunday in clashes between Jews and Arabs, a hospital source said, quoted by AFP.

Mohammed Omar Akawi, 42, was shot in the heart, the source said.

250 Arabs were injured in the agression, Al Jazira satellite channel reported, adding that a huge rally was going through the streets of the city carrying the martyr, and heading for the city center.

It was not immediately clear whether he was killed by the Israeli police, or by a gunman among the mobs of Jewish youths rampaging in the streets of the town, clashing with local Arabs afer damaging their property.

Thousands of Jewish extremists were attacking the east quarter of Nazareth, backed by police forces, reported Al Jazira.

The station said that Palestinians were using mosques’ loudspeakers to call for help.

11 Palestinians inside Israel were killed in clashes with security forces during protests against Israeli massacres of the Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza.

The station also said that Palestinians in the west Bank city of Ramallah were rallying in support for Nazareth.

It added that Arab member of Knesset Azmi Bishara said he would call for international protection if the Jews continue with terrorism.

In an interview with Albawaba.com Sunday, Bishara described the situation as unsafe for the Palestinians in Israel.

Al Jazira quoted Nazareth city hall officials as holding the Israeli authorities responsible for the safety of the Arabs – Albawaba.com
